WHY VERTICAL STRIPES ARE YOUR NEW WARDROBE STAPLE

In short, they are versatile and timeless – Coco Chanel popularized the Breton stripe jumper by adopting it from the fisherman of the time, and since then, stripes have gone from strength to strength. Don’t rule stripes as unflattering until you’ve tried the vertical version as they are the best type of stripes to give an elongated and slimming look.

It’s then time for you to turn the horizontal classic on the side and start to focus on something a little more vertical. Forget stereotypical prison uniforms and pyjamas alike, stripes are a classic staple and the great thing about wearing vertical stripes is that you can really play around and vary up the thickness and color of the stripe that you’re wearing. As Vertical stripes do elongate the figure, go for a wide leg trouser in a wide stripe and team with heels and a v-neck maille tricot. You can also opt for diagonal lines to break all the rules ! Therefore, long lines create the illusion of length and soften curves. However, keep in mind that, the more curvier you are, the narrower stripes you go for that will make you look slimmer.

By the way, prints embedded with stripes can be figure friendly so you don’t have to worry about that.Mixing vertical design elements can minimize the stripe’s widening effect.  If you aren’t a fan of color, asymmetrical stripes are definitely an option. Pick out stripes that aren’t going the same direction. In the contrary, if you’re looking for something edgy, don’t be afraid to layer-up your stripes and stick to wide bands where possible.Wearing angular, mismatched or a mixture of slanted stripes will give a streamlined silhouette. By doing so, you can create contrast, contour and reduce curves.
