Bold prints, mixed patterns and funky accessories aren’t the only ways to make your outfit pop. One of the simple recipe for a standout look is to pick one color and stick with it from head to toe. The idea of rocking the same color from head to toe can be frightening right? In fact, when we talk about wearing monochromatic outfits, it isn’t just about all-black or all-white looks here, either. Even though monochromatic styling can be a little bit daunting, like most creative dressing, it’s a matter of experimentation with a bit of trial and error. This said, no need to stress about. The first tip is to look in your closet and start pulling out all of the pieces you have in the color of your choice. Look for different tops and blouses, pants, jeans or skirts, tights and shoes, it’s time to have some fun! In order to pull off the monochromatic style, it’s all about balance and mixing up textures. For example, you can pair your faux leather detail leggings with a shiny silky crêpe blouse, with your ’90 inspired velvet boots. Mixing these textures gives the look depth and keeps it interesting and modern.

Now you’ve got the basics down, mixing your textures! Let’s talk about mixing your shades within color families. Red shade, for instance, has so many different hues and this season especially during the holiday fest, you can already see pairings of bright red with shades of dark maroon. As the hue works well together across the spectrum, you could also try mixing burgundy with crimson or cherry red. Just make sure they are all warm tones for the full effect. As said previously, another way to add visual interest and break up your one color combo, is to mix up the prints and patterns in your pieces.  So, don’t forget to break up the block with a print like a red striped shirt, which is also a great way of easing into this vibe. Therefore, a clear orangey red round sunglasses  would be perfect to finish off your look and it adds more dimension to your color pallet.

This said, if one color in particular really suits you, then this is the look you need to work on. Dressing top-to-toe in one color is no easy feat but make sure to select bold pieces for a more sophisticated feel. However, if your monochromatic outfit is too bold, don’t exaggerate with prints and fabrics. Go for simplicity and wear for example, a black cotton tee under your black fur coat paired with black sneakers to keep the look modest and casual. Another tip to consider when you’re mixing prints, is to think about the size of the pattern. If you have a finer print on the bottom, opt for a larger scaled print up top, or vice versa. Now you’re an expert on how to wear one color from head to toe!
